Taking Care of Your Tired Aching Feet

Whether you’re an an athlete, a service worker, or a stay-at-home mom, almost everyone has to deal with tired, aching feet at some time or another. Often foot pain can come about simply from standing in place or walking too much and is easily fixed with rest and over the counter medications.  But too often, we have other underlying conditions which exacerbate these everyday aches and pains.  These conditions include previous injuries, flat feet, high arches, diabetic neuropathy, bone spurs, plantar fasciitis, athlete’s feet, and more.  Here are a few tips to take care of your tired, aching feet.

Wear Comfortable Shoes – Ditch the cheap flip flops. Toss the high heeled shoes, and put one some shoes that are actually comfortable and made for walking. Look for high quality shoes, made of durable and breathable materials. Also, make sure shoes are a good fit and provide you with proper support.  If needed, try out a pair of orthopedic shoes.  Get shoes with good arch support or opt for insoles an arch support insert.

Other Support – Apart from comfortable shoes and inserts, it may be helpful to wear compression socks or an ankle brace for further support.

See a Podiatrist or Physical Therapist – If you have chronic foot pain, see a podiatrist to help identity any underlying conditions your may have. Or set up an appointment with a physical therapist who can give you exercises for pain relief and healing. Depending your condition, they may be able to recommend medication or alternative therapies as well.

Massage Therapy – A professional masseuse may be able to help your aching feet. If this too expensive or inconvenient for you, consider purchasing a high quality foot massager.

Soak Your Feet– A hot bath or foot bath can really due to trick at the end of the day.  Add epsom salts to your bath to reduce pain and swelling and use high quality essential oils from Simply Earth.  I like to use oils like Peppermint, Eucalyptus, and Nutmeg for pain relief.

Medications – Some ailments may require prescription medication from your doctor. Oinments, creams, and roll-ons are also available to ease foot pain.
