Natural Dentist Review & Giveaway

Photobucket
Unfortunately I’ve had my share of dental problems. In fact, I just shelled out a pretty penny to have some dental work done, so when I had the opportunity to try Natural Dentist Healthy Gums Anti-Gingivitis Rinse, I jumped at the chance!

Dentists estimate that 80% of us develop gum disease in our lifetimes. If left untreated, however, gum disease may progress to other oral health issues, including tooth loss, and other studies and experts have also linked gum disease to heart disease, stroke, breast cancer and respiratory diseases.
And some of the risk factors for developing gingivitis include:
  • Poor dental hygiene
  • Pregnancy/puberty/menopause (hormonal changes increase the sensitivity of the gums)
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Genetics/family history (30% of general population susceptible to gum disease)
  • Smoking
  • Stress
  • Medications
  • General illness
And the early warning symptoms are gum inflammation and bleeding (pink in the sink). If you have these symptoms or have a family history of gum disease, you should see a denist and stick to a regular at home care regimen.

Here’s a few facts about Natural Dentist Healthy Gums Anti-Gingivitis Rinse and why you may want to add it to your daily regimen:
  •  Reduce and prevent bleeding gums
  • Protects against gingivitis
  • Kill germs
  • Reduces plaque
  • Freshens breath
  • Contains Aloe Vera gel as its active ingredient to help prevent bleeding gums.
  • Also contains other natural medicinal components such as Echinacea, goldenseal, calendula, and grapefruit seed extract that help calm gum inflammation
My Review: Personally I like that the product contains natural ingredients. Previously I had not tried a mouth wash like that, so I found this feature very interesting, and I was very intrigued that aloe vera was the active ingredient.
Another thing that attracts me to the product is that it doesn’t burn your mouth like a lot of other mouth washes. I don’t always like to use mouthwash or don’t always use it properly (as in, I don’t use the right amount, or I don’t rinse for the right amount of time) because I can’t endure the burning sensation, but with the Natural Dentist brand you don’t have this problem.
I tried the Peppermint Twist Flavor. The taste is very different from other mouth washes, and kind of hard to describe. I’d compare it to the difference between an at-home fluoride or prescription toothpaste versus your basic everyday toothpaste.

Over Easy Egg "Scramble"

Photobucket
Come join #DairyBreakfastClub recipe party at TidyMom along with The California Milk Advisory Board and RealCaliforniaMilk.com
I’ve always eaten scrambled eggs for breakfast. But some people (let me pause for a minute so I can look around the room) like their eggs cooked other ways.
Let’s just say, I was very excited at the beginning of my married life when I was making my first breakfast, and my hopes were very quickly dashed, when I was told, “I like my eggs cooked over easy.” And I had to say, “Huh? What is that?” Too funny! Live and learn, I guess!
Anyway, this week I’m sharing what I like to call the Over easy Egg Scramble.  It’s like sort of like a traditional breakfast scramble except it’s got some carbs added in, and of course the eggs are not scrambled, they’re cooked over easy, or as we always said in my house growing up, “fried.”
Hope you enjoy!
Photobucket
Recipe for Over Easy “Scramble”

Ingredients:
3 eggs, cooked over easy
2 servings grits, (according to package directions, I mix 6 tablespoons quick grits with 2 cups water and cook 5-7 minutes)*
3-4 pieces of bacon (use other meat if you prefer)
salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:  Cook grits and bacon first, followed by the eggs.
Place the cooked eggs on plate or bowl. Break the egg yokes. Pour grits over eggs and stir. Crumble and top with bacon. Season with salt and pepper.
*If you don’t like grits, you could also try oatmeal or cream of wheat. Personally I don’t eat this myself. I just make it for others who love it. I’m more of a Sugar-On-Grits Girl! But I think that oatmeal or cream of wheat would be very comparable with this.

Personally I would love to pick some new things for our bathrooms. Our main bathroom needs new rugs, and the master bathroom could use some new rugs and accent pieces. Don’t these things look lovely?
It would also be great to check out some items for the living room.  My mom just gave us a new couch and chair, so I’m hoping to make some changing to some of our living room accents.
Do you have a Dollar General in your area? And do you ever check out the home accents and decor section?

Konsyl Fiber Review & Giveaway

If you watch enough health related programming (or even enough television commercials) you’ll find that most of use don’t get the recommended daily amount of fiber.  My husband’s doctor recommended that he use regular fiber supplements, so I’m always interested in finding new fiber supplements and fiber rich snacks.
We recently learned about Konsyl, and were happy to try some of their fiber products.

Konsyl is the #1 doctor-recommended all natural psyllium fiber supplement. Konsyl Original and Konsyl Easy Mix psyllium fiber products are all natural, gluten-free and contain no sugar or sugar substitutes. They are safe for celiac patients, diabetics and pregnant and nursing mothers.

I decided to try their Konsyl Balance Orange, a blend of psyllium fiber and inulin, a soluble prebiotic fiberthat stimulates growth of healthy bacteria.  I often fix my husband fiber drinks, and I knew he would like this for it’s orange flavor.
And then we also got a bottle of the capsules.  I chose these because I prefer to take a pill over drinking something.  For me, it’s just easier, faster, and more convenient.  However, I sometimes have problems swallowing big pills, so I was happy to see that these were the soft, easy-to-swallow capsules.
All in all, we found the products very useful and convenient.  And we liked that  Konsyl had a variety of products to fit our needs.
Of course, we have a giveaway today from Konsyl, but before we get to that, I was given a couple of recipes to make using Konsyl, and I thought I’d share one with you!
Since spring is coming, I thought it would be the perfect time to share this recipe for Carrot Cupcakes. Yes, that’s right! Carrot Cupcakes made with fiber powder! Excellent!
Recipe for Carrot Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Buffalo Chicken & Rice

Buffalo Chicken & Rice

As you know, around here we love all things buffalo!  This week I’m sharing one of my recent inventions: Buffalo Chicken & Rice!  This recipe is based on the Buffalo Potato Casserole I shared a while back.  Both are deliciously good, comfort food  meals with a kick!
Photobucket

Recipe for Buffalo Chicken & Rice:

Ingredients:
12-15 Skinless Boneless Chicken Strips, not cooked
1/4 – 1/2 cup buffalo sauce (I use Frank’s)
1 1/2 cups rice, cooked (I use the white, long grain)
1 cup of ranch dressing
1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 can cream of celery soup
Directions: Cook rice on stove top according to package directions.  Heat oven to 375. Spray 13×9 inch baking dish with cooking spray. In a large bowl stir  dressing, soup, 1/2 cup cheese, cooked rice, and 1/4 cup of buffalo sauce. Pour mixture into baking dish.
In same bowl, place chicken strips and 1/4 cup of buffalo sauce (use more if needed).  Coat each strip with sauce.  Then spoon chicken and sauce over the rice mixture.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Take out and remove foil. Top with 1 cup of cheese. Bake uncovered for another 30 minutes or until chicken is done.

*Optional – Serve additional ranch on the side or atop rice.
