Help Make Mom an Entrepreneur: Support her MUMZY Project

The holidays may be over, but that doesn’t mean the giving has to stop!  In 2015, you can help give moms the gift of entrepreneurship by helping to fund their project on Mumzy.  Mumzy is new crowdfunding site especially for moms.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with crowdfunding sites, I’ll explain.  They are sites where people share their idea for a product, project, a business, or even a charitable cause, and try to raise money for the endeavor through donations on the site.  And apart from giving moms the ability to raise money for their projects, Mumzy also provides them with with other support and resources, so they can grow their business, even after their fundraising goals have been met.

The site was founded by mom and marketing expert Catherine Merritt.  Mumzy sees moms as some of the most innovative and inventive entrepreneurs and hopes to help this underserved population.

I love this idea.  I’m a big fan of small businesses, and I applaud all women, especially mom’s, who are trying to better themselves through a home based business or other entrepreneurial efforts.

As someone who makes money through my blog site and Etsy shop, I know all about the limitations and restrictions a lack of funds can put on your business.  And I know so many people out there are just like me.  They have great ideas and are only limited by time and that little thing called the almighty dollar!

Without crowd funding a lot of us have no choice but to do what I’ve done, which is to build a business very slowly.  But still more people will be forced to quit due to financial constraints, and some may not start the business at all!

Another great thing about Mumzy is that it allows for fundraising for charitable causes.  Currently there are two charitable projects to donate to.  One is for PCDH19 Epilepsy Research Funding and the other is for the Choc Children’s HospitalScreenshot 2015-01-08 22.46.17

Mumzy is still a new site, and they are very excited for you to be one of the first members of this growing community by posting a project or helping to fund another member’s project. To encourage this, one of the first 100 people to post a project will win $1000 toward their funding goal!  Mumzy also invites you to give feedback and make suggestions on how they can make the community better!

All Mighty Pacs Detergent Plus 5 Laundry Tips

5 Laundry Tips

I’ve been spending the first week of my new year getting my house in order and cleaning from top to bottom. I’m very happy with the progress I’ve made, and one of my goals this year to get back to the basics of maintaining a clean home, so I can avoid these “extreme clean-a-thons.”  It’s not always easy with a family, pets, and my schedule, but I’m up for the challenge. One chore that I never seem to get woefully behind on is laundry; perhaps because it’s pretty much unavoidable and can’t be skipped.  Here are just a few things that help me get this hugely important chore done!

25 Delicious Must-Make Recipes

Happy New Year! (Again!)  As a blogger, it seems to have become quite customary to take the interim period between Christmas and New Year’s Day to look back over the year’s work and then re-share some of the highlights.  So I’ve been looking back at everything over the last few days, and today I have a fun round-up of posts for you: my 25 Delicious Must-Make Recipes from 2014!

I can honestly say that I enjoyed making and EATING all of these, so I hope you will check them out and decide to make few of these for yourself (especially the chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes….just saying!)

And as always, I welcome your comments on this and any of the recipe posts featured here, especially on my photos.  In 2014, I worked on improving my photo staging and editing, but I was still limited by not having a DSLR camera (not to mention, the lighting was not always ideal!).  However, I’m really proud of the improvements I was able to make throughout the year, and I am super excited because I….I mean, Santa, just got me a DSLR camera for Christmas, so I cannot wait to make things look even better here in 2015!  [Read more…]

Hot Cocoa Muddy Mix

Hot Cocoa Muddy Mix

I’ve never been a “go out on New Year’s Eve” kind of person. I’d much rather than stay home. It’s way less crowded!  But what I do love, is to have plenty of appetizers and snacks to help celebrate the occasion.  The night wouldn’t be the same without them!  This year for the sweet side, I made this Hot Cocoa Muddy Mix.

I’ve made a few different Muddy Mix recipes (or Puppy Chow if you will): Peppermint MuddiesCheesecake Muddy Mix. and Strawberry Cheesecake Muddy Mix.

I love this stuff because I can make it in about 10 minutes or less!  It is also a very festive snack that you can change up with just an ingredient or two (like my linked examples above).

I’ve enjoy each muddy mix I’ve tried, but I think this my new favorite!  I looked at a few recipes for inspiration, and then I threw this together….I called myself making a “half batch” since a lot of recipes instruct you to use 6 or 7 cups of Chex Cereal (basically the entire box), but even my half batch made a pretty big bowl of stuff; I’d say it’s enough for 2 to 4 people.  It’s definitely enough if it’s just you, your spouse, and a couple of kids.  (Then again, this stuff DOES stay good for a few days, so even if you’re not having a party and just want a little extra for you and your family, by all means, feel free to double the recipe!) Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone!  Assuming I’m looking at the calendar correctly, this is the last one of the year!  Can you believe it?

I’ve had a crazy month this week with my Etsy business, the blog, and what have you.  But I’m hoping to get everything “back on track” real soon.  Since I was busy working on last minute Etsy Christmas orders, I didn’t host a party last week, so I just couldn’t skip this week, holiday or not.  And to make up for the absense, this week’s party includes a delicious giveaway for you.  Check it out!
